Apathy
Apathy
Apathy (born Chad Bromley) is a Connecticut-born hip-hop stalwart who discovered the genre at age five when his uncle played Chaka Khan’s “I Feel For You.” Drawing inspiration from legends like Gang Starr, Nas, and Organized Konfusion, Apathy quickly honed his craft. He burst onto the scene with early appearances on Jedi Mind Tricks’ 1997 debut and singles on Bronx Science Records, where he met emcee/producer Celph Titled. Together, they formed the influential Demigodz crew, releasing the EP The Godz Must Be Crazy in 2002.
Though major labels Atlantic and Interscope courted him, Apathy’s debut solo album faced delays before he signed with indie Babygrande and released Eastern Philosophy (2006). His prolific catalog includes standout releases such as Honkey Kong (2011), Wanna Snuggle? (2013), Connecticut Casual (2014), Weekend at the Cape (2015), Handshakes with Snakes (2016), and the conceptually strong collaboration Perestroika (2017) with the legendary O.C.
Apathy’s albums showcase collaborations with heavy hitters like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Pharoahe Monch, Vinnie Paz, Diabolic, The Alchemist, Evidence, Roc Marciano, M.O.P., Chris Webby, Styles P, Action Bronson, Jadakiss, and Black Thought, among many others. Alongside these standout features, his work with the Demigodz, Get Busy Committee, and Army of the Pharaohs has further cemented his reputation as a cornerstone of underground hip-hop.
In recent years, Apathy developed his signature “Shore Life” sound—a laid-back, sample-rich style infused with sharp lyricism—heard on Connecticut Casual: Chapter 2. His 2022 album King of Gods: No Second, produced entirely by Stu Bangas, marks a return to his hardcore roots.
His newest album, Mom & Dad, arrives on his own imprint, Anchors Up Rec., blending ‘80s nostalgia and socio-political commentary. Apathy handles production on most tracks, with Playa Haze and Little Vic contributing, crafting a project both personal and conceptually rich.
