Lord Finesse

Lord Finesse is a legendary MC, producer, and DJ hailing from the Bronx, New York. As a founding member of the influential Diggin’ in the Crates (D.I.T.C.) crew, Finesse has cemented his legacy as one of hip-hop’s most respected lyricists and beatmakers. Bursting onto the scene in 1989 with his debut album Funky Technician, he quickly gained recognition for his sharp punchlines, smooth delivery, and undeniable charisma on the mic.

Beyond his own releases, Lord Finesse has been a key figure behind the boards, crafting beats for icons like The Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre, and Fat Joe, among others. His production style, rooted in the classic boom-bap aesthetic, seamlessly blends rich jazz and soul samples with hard-hitting drums, a sound that remains timeless and continues to inspire producers across generations. His ear for sonic detail and deep crate-digging sensibilities have earned him a reputation as one of the most revered producers in hip-hop history.

With a career spanning decades, Lord Finesse remains a pillar of hip-hop culture—whether rocking stages, producing classics, or mentoring the next generation of artists. His contributions to the genre are timeless, and his name stands as a mark of authenticity and excellence.

Finesse continues his legacy with the March 7, 2025, release of his forthcoming instrumental LP, The SP 1200 Project: Sounds & Frequencies in Technicolor, in partnership with Underworld Label Group and Colemine Records. Showcasing his deep-rooted love for production and the raw magic of the iconic SP 1200 drum machine, the album is a testament to his enduring influence and craftsmanship. As he pushes the boundaries of sound while honoring the foundations of hip-hop, Lord Finesse proves that true artistry never fades—it only evolves.
