Deca
Deca
Deca is an equally gifted producer and emcee blessed with the talent to create psychedelic boom-bap landscapes for his own imaginative raps. With a background in the visual arts, he captures that same feeling — the visual aspect of creating — with his music. His words and sounds jump out of your speaker, bounce around the space, and fill it up with his unique style.
But the best part about his work? He delivers it all without an ounce of pretension. Instead, Deca pulls you in with colorful lyricism and instrumentals that are immediately gripping, warm, and destined for repeat listens. And he’s been doing this since the early 2000s, when he helped Denver’s hip-hop scene blossom before heading to New York.
It’s in NYC where he continued to establish himself as a force in the scene. His 2013 release, the incredible The Ocean, catapulted his momentum and exponentially grew his fanbase. Just three years later, he dropped his third record, Forest Agates, and kicked off a hot streak of releasing a project annually.
The ensuing years featured more stunning releases, including hypnotizing instrumental albums (2018’s Flux and 2021’s Source Material), bugged-out concept records (2019’s The Donner Party), and cultural/societal critiques (2022’s The Smoking Gun). During this time, he also collaborated with the likes of Blu and Homeboy Sandman, and joined forces with indie rap label Coalmine Records.
The future is bright for Deca, who’s undoubtedly one of hip-hop’s most fascinating talents.
