“Keeping it real was never a catchphrase.” — Matt Sonzala

Released in 2001, K-Otix’s full-length debut Universal offered a distinct perspective on Houston hip-hop, pairing jazzy production with thoughtful lyricism and an independent spirit that reached listeners far beyond Texas. Across 17 tracks, Mic and D’s sharp rhymes meet The ARE’s soulful, head-nodding grooves, with standouts including “U Know the Name,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “World Renown.”

For its 25th anniversary, this underground landmark returns in partnership with Coalmine Reissues, featuring remastered audio and redesigned artwork.

This 2×LP edition features audio remastered by D-Sane at Digital Age Sound, new artwork by Frank DeMaria, and a fully restored layout by Mr. Krum. Housed in a 24pt matte-finished wide-spine jacket with printed inner sleeves, the package includes an autographed 8×10 press photo and an exclusive OBI strip featuring a foreword by Matt Sonzala. Disc 1 is pressed in a Violet Nebula Color-In-Color configuration, while Disc 2 features a Solar Flare Color-In-Color configuration. Limited to just 100 hand-numbered copies, this edition is available exclusively through Coalmine’s web-store.
