“Keeping it real was never a catchphrase.” — Matt Sonzala

Released in 2001, K-Otix’s full-length debut Universal offered a distinct perspective on Houston hip-hop, pairing jazzy production with thoughtful lyricism and an independent spirit that reached listeners far beyond Texas. Across 17 tracks, Mic and D’s sharp rhymes meet The ARE’s soulful, head-nodding grooves, with standouts including “U Know the Name,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “World Renown.”

For its 25th anniversary, this underground landmark returns in partnership with Coalmine Reissues, featuring remastered audio and redesigned artwork.

Available for the first time on cassette, this 25th Anniversary Edition features audio remastered by D-Sane at Digital Age Sound, new album artwork by Frank DeMaria, and a fully restored layout by Mr. Krum. Housed in a violet-tinted cassette shell with a full-color J-card featuring an additional foldout panel and a foreword by Matt Sonzala, this variant is limited to just 50 copies available exclusively through our webstore, with a total of 150 cassettes available worldwide across all variants.
