“Keeping it real was never a catchphrase.” — Matt Sonzala

Released in 2001, K-Otix’s full-length debut Universal offered a distinct perspective on Houston hip-hop, pairing jazzy production with thoughtful lyricism and an independent spirit that reached listeners far beyond Texas. Across 17 tracks, Mic and D’s sharp rhymes meet The ARE’s soulful, head-nodding grooves, with standouts including “U Know the Name,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “World Renown.”

For its 25th anniversary, this underground landmark returns in partnership with Coalmine Reissues, featuring remastered audio and redesigned artwork.

Reissued on compact disc for the album’s 25th anniversary, this glass-mastered edition features new album artwork by Frank DeMaria and a fully restored layout by Mr. Krum. Packaged in a jewel case with a four-panel insert featuring a foreword by Matt Sonzala, this edition is limited to 225 copies worldwide, with just 50 available through Coalmine’s web-store.
